After being in Korea for 4 years I have a couple of hopes
That I never need the services of an ambulance
That I never need the services of their police force
So whats your opinion? Have you had any run ins with the law in Korea? -
Something I’ve learned a lot of law enforcement powers are in the hands of prosecutors, not the police.
The police are typically toothless. They favour inaction, even sometimes in critical situations. Also they aren’t your friends, and if you call them for help it might end up making things more difficult. As a rule of thumb they tend to side with Koreans against foreigners.
Compared to US cops, they aren’t nearly as militarised, and it’s extremely rare they kill anyone. But if you’re a foreigner complaining about a Korean, you will be on your own.
