The 51-year-old had kept the existence of her 29-year-old daughter a secret up till her death

Shocker 1: Taiwanese singer Long Qianyu has a 29-year-old daughter.

Shocker 2: The daughter has died of drug overdose on July 30.

Fans were shocked when Qianyu admitted yesterday that Tsao Chunling, who was an outstanding student of the drama department in National Taiwan University of Arts, is her daughter with Taiwanese host Denny Tsao.

Explaining why she had kept her daughter’s existence a secret, she shared that the fact that she had a daughter would not have been condoned at the time, adding, “The misunderstandings and heartaches (that I endured) will never be understood by others – I can only suffer alone.” The singer, who was single at the time, has never married.

Qianyu, whose father died last year, has been having trouble dealing with the double blow of having to reveal her secret child and to cope with her death. She has declared that she will temporarily stop all work, and her brother expressed, “It’s unavoidable that she feels sad, but she will face it bravely.”

Qianyu has also revealed that she will not disclose further news of the circumstances surrounding her daughter’s death as she had expressed in her will that she would prefer for everything to be dealt with in a low-key manner. The singer shared that she was worried that it would become a source of negative inspiration for teenagers facing difficulties in life.

The coroner’s preliminary reports have suggested that Chunling had committed suicide, but officials have commented that they will have to retrieve her past medical history to make an accurate diagnosis.
