K-pop trio JYJ has decided to take a strong stance against people who post defamatory lies about the group online, its agency said yesterday.

In an announcement on their website, the JYJ members said that a minor had posted “lies” on a JYJ online bulletin board, so the agency took action.

“The parents wanted us to show mercy on the poster because he is still underage, but we declined to do so,” the agency said.

“We are continuing with a civil suit against this netizen and are demanding compensation. The agency will not settle or show mercy with netizens who hurt the group.”

Since forming in 2008, JYJ has faced rumors of conflict within the group and improper behavior.

The agency is reportedly working with Korea’s cyberpolice to crack down on comments made online that hurt the group’s reputation because libelous and defamatory comments have grown more common recently.

“By notifying people about these incidents as they happen, we are trying to issue a serious warning about spreading rumors or making unproven negative comments,” the agency said.
