Tamir Rice, 12, was shot twice by police after pulling the fake weapon in Cleveland, Ohio on Saturday. He died a day later.
The 911 caller told dispatchers the boy was on a swing set and pointing a pistol that was “probably fake” and scaring everyone.
The caller said the boy was pulling the gun in and out of his pants.
“I don’t know if it’s real or not,” he said.
Police said one officer fired twice after the boy pulled the fake weapon – which did not have an orange safety indicator usually found on the muzzle of fake guns – from his waistband.
He had not pointed it at police and did not make any threats, but he grabbed the replica weapon after being told to raise his hands, police said.
