Robert Ekaireb, 38, and Li Hua Cao, 27, shared a flat in Hampstead after meeting at a lapdancing club in Cork and marrying at Barnet registry office.

It seemed an ideal arrangement, the Old Bailey was told. Her main ambition had been to find a wealthy man to provide for her and her family in China and he was besotted with her.

But the relationship crumbled because of his all-consuming jealousy, said prosecutor Brian Altman, QC. Ekaireb, allegedly murdered Li Hua seven years ago before arranging for their flat to be re-decorated and re-carpeted.
