Actress Lesley Manville was under fire today after launching a withering attack on her co-star Susan Boyle’s big-screen debut.
Manville, said she found the decision to cast Boyle for a cameo in multi-million dollar drama The Christmas Candle, “disturbing”
“When things like that happen they take up so much time because they can’t just turn up and do it, so you lose time. People lose patience and then editing compromises happen because they are not very good at the acting bit so you have to cut around them.
“I’m not comfortable with all of that and I find it disturbing.” Manville, 57, best known for her award-winning work with director Mike Leigh, also expressed discomfort at the “religious agenda” of the film.
“It became clear the film had a kind of slant to it that was perhaps not necessarily to my taste,” she said. Boyle, 52, whose sudden rise to fame in 2009 was accompanied by concerns about her mental well-being, revealed yesterday her diagnosis of Asperger’s.
