Whitney Houston’s family – including her daughter Bobbi Kristina – spent time at the Whigham funeral home in Newark, N.J., on Friday.
A source tells PEOPLE the family planned a private viewing for Houston’s close friends and family members on Friday night ahead of the funeral on Saturday. Houston, 48, died over the weekend in Beverly Hills.
Funeral director Caroline Whigham told the crowd that had gathered outside that the viewing “was done in privacy. It was between a mother, a daughter, two brothers and a family.”
Also spotted at the funeral home: Houston’s mother, Cissy Houston, Dionne Warwick and Clive Davis, among others.
The source says Bobbi Kristina, 18, has been spending time with her grandmother, Cissy, and is doing as best as can be expected. “There are moments when she is strong and moments when it all hits her,” says the source. “She can’t escape it.”
Bobbi Kristina was hospitalized in Los Angeles for an emotional breakdown after her mother was found unresponsive in her hotel room. On Wednesday, her father Bobby Brown said Bobbi Kristina was “doing much better.”
Houston’s invitation-only funeral will take place Saturday at noon at the New Hope Baptist Church in Newark, N.J., where the pop queen’s powerful voice was first heard in the choir.
*The whole situation with Whitney Houston is very sad but it’s more sad when fans are turned away as if fans are nothing but a dollar sign. The Houston family isn’t going through the singer’s death alone, the fans are feeling the lost and grieving as well. Just wish celebrities families would think of fans as people with feelings and emotions. Too bad fans don’t have huge name in the entatinment industry. – La Tray
