Goo Hara will finally make her solo debut after nearly eight years since joining KARA.

According to multiple music insiders, Goo Hara’s solo debut is scheduled for the third week of July soon after KARA completes activities for “CUPID,” meaning the young female idol will have no time for a rest. However, DSP Media has noted that this may be subjected to change.

According to an exclusive report by Newsen, Goo Hara has already filmed for her solo music video in secrecy on June 22nd. She is preparing to show her potential to stand on stage on her own revealing her cute but sexy side to fans. This has many music industry officials to compare her to Lee Hyori, who also made a similar transition when she made her solo debut with “10 Minutes.”

Goo Hara will be facing strong competition from other girl groups and female singers making their comeback at the end of June and July when it comes to the charts, includingSISTAR, AOA, Girl’s Day, NS Yoon-G, 9MUSES, Girls’ Generation, and much more.

Girls’ Generation, KARA and Wonder Girls {K-Pop} Girl-Group Member Departures

On September 2014, Girls’ Generation became a group of 8, following steps of other recent girl-group member departures such as KARA and Wonder Girls.

Idols have been on an upward trend as of late, with the global power of Hallyu spreading across the world. From concerts in the US to Europe, there’s no doubt that K-Pop is a major trend. But now the first global wave of K-Pop is going through the hardest times of its history, and Girls’ Generation just joined the row.

While the very first idols of Korea in 1990’s suffered break-ups after 5 years, the 2nd generation of idols are seeing a massive loss of members.

Wonder Girls went through several member losses and recruitments, starting withHyuna, Sunmi, and now Sunye and Sohee. Although new recruits have been made, Wonder Girls never stood up again like their past, and after Sunye’s pregnancy and Sohee’s change in career to acting, the future of Wonder Girls seems quite bleak.

Kara recently made a new start after recruting their new member Youngji. Similar to Wonder Girls, Kara also faced departure of two core members, Kang Jiyoung andNicole Jung (Edit: KARA also lost member Kim Sunghee in 2008, 1 year after their debut). The remaining members and DSP Entertainment soon decided to recruit a new member through reality programmed audition, and eventually chose Youngji.

Although the two groups are not as popular as they used to be, they are definitely trying new methods. Wonder Girls is now focusing on Solo performances of the members, with Sunmi and Yenny successfully standing up as solo artists. Kara on the other hand is gaining positive responses with the recruit of their new member Youngji.

What will Girls’ Generation show us? The news of Jessica leaving the group surely was shocking, but nonetheless Girls’ Generation is still commencing their activities without her. The biggest issues Girls’ Generation faces is the absence of Jessica’s powerful vocals, which were key points in numerous Girls’ Generation songs.

What does this mean for the future of both the remaining members and departed members?

KARA’s agency DSP Media stated, “Although we originally planned for KARA to perform, KARA has decided to forego performing during this year’s ‘Dream Concert.’ For a while, KARA’s Seungyeon, Hara, and Gyuri will be continuing on their individual activities and promotions. KARA will eventually release a comeback album, but nothing has been discussed in great detail as of now. As Seungyeon is starring in a 50-episode drama, KARA will be focusing on individual activities.”

KARA has been on the first line-up for “2014 Dream Concert” taking place on June 7, but it seems like the members are too busy with individual works, thus making an appearance on stage difficult.

After recently wrapping up promotions for their latest title track“Damaged Lady,” KARA will no longer be promoting with five members after next year. Nicole has decided not to renew her contract with DSP Media after it expires in January 2014, and will therefore no longer be a member of KARA.

Through a press release, DSP announced on October 4th that the other three members, Gyuri, Seungyeon, and Hara have all renewed their contracts for another two years and will continue promoting as KARA. Jiyoung’s contract also expires in April next year, but has yet to decide whether to renew it or not. A representative from DSP stated, “Jiyoung is thinking about resting and studying abroad. Right now, she is working hard as part of KARA, and nothing has been confirmed yet. There is still a lot of time left, so we will be discussing this further.”

Meanwhile, fans have been speculating the reason for Nicole’s departure from KARA. An online community posted an article on October 4th, stating that aside from being an MC for SBS’s Inkigayo, Nicole has not had many individual activities since KARA’s controversy in 2011.

Despite this recent development, KARA is continuing their second Japan arena tour, with performances in Yokohama, Fukuoka, and Osaka. Furthermore, DSP clarified that regardless of the final decisions, KARA will continue with domestic and international activities.

What do you think of this recent development? KARA fans, will you continue to support KARA with three, possibly four, members?
