In a very well-known and publicized lawsuit, three members of the then-five-member TVXQ! sued SM Entertainment for unfair contract terms in 2009. The suit was settled in 2012, but by then the three had already moved on under C-JeS Entertainment as JYJ.

Each of their albums released between 2010 and 2013 reached number one on the charts. The three also had acting success, with Yoochun becoming the lead in dramas like Rooftop Prince and Xia (aka Kim Junsu) becoming especially popular in musical theater. Xia also became an OST legend, appearing in Scent of A Woman as himself.

Jaejoong transitioned so well into acting he won the Top Excellence Actor Award for Triangle at the 2014 Korean Drama Awards.

Meanwhile, they also had successful solo music careers, with Jaejoong releasing solo hits between 2014 and 2016. Yoochun’s rape scandal in 2016 paused his promotional activities but, after he was cleared of all charges and finished military service, he returned to promoting this year.

Xia is on hiatus as he is currently serving in the military.

Luhan and His Girlfriend Guan Xiaotong Is Causing Tension

Luhan has recently parted ways with his Chinese agency, but a Chinese news portal announced that despite the CEO’s encouraging message, their parting was in fact not very peaceful at all.

Luhan and the agency’s CEO had tensions since before because of the agency’s lack of effort on matters such as public relations or protection of the artist’s image. The tensions were intensified with the public announcement of Luhan’s relationship with girlfriend, Guan Xiaotong.

Guan Xiaotong is a famous Chinese actress who is often referred to as the “Nation’s Daughter” in China.

After an extended period of negotiations, SM Entertainment has finally reached a settlement with former EXO members Wu Yifan and Luhan. 

The two singers had originally attempted to terminate their contract with SM Entertainment on the grounds of unfair monetary compensation and lack of artist management by the agency. After many long months of arbitration and negotiation, however, Wu Yifan and Luhan have agreed to SM Entertainment’s terms.

According to reports, while they will not be returning to EXO, their contracts with SM Entertainment will be maintained until 2022, and will therefore have to share their overseas income with the agency. Upon hearing the news, many Korean fans have rejoiced, congratulating the agency on reaching a proper settlement.
