Typhoon Soulik proved to be of no threat to JJ Lin’s fans as they showed up at his concert at the Taipei Arena last weekend undeterred by warnings of heavy rain and flooding. Although the singer previously announced that tickets would be fully refunded due to the weather condition, there was hardly any empty seats spotted at the venue.

“I’m son of the sun. Everything will be fine!” he hollered, while expressing his gratitude towards the 10,000-strong crowd.

Kicking off the very first show of his Time Line World Tour, JJ descended on an extended stage with a customised “gear wheel piano” reportedly worth NT$2 million (approximately S$84,000).

Be it stage design or costumes, the singer spared no expense from his black LED diamante encrusted armour to the “man-made rain” segment during the show.

JJ also paid tribute to his late idol Michael Jackson by performing the song “Billie Jean” in the “rain”, which amounted to an estimated NT$3.5 million (S$140,000) in production fees. Despite being soaked from head to toe, he continued performing two more songs before he wowed the crowd by removing his jacket and showing off his biceps.

The audience, who were seated at the second level, got the biggest bang for their buck with upclose interactions with the singer. One such lucky fan even joined JJ on his elevated swing which transported them around the arena.

“Are there any couples that have dated for 10 years who are here tonight? I do have a 10-year lover – all of you,” said the honey-tongued singer.

JJ performed a total of 33 songs on Saturday night at his concert which saw the attendance of celebrity friends such as Jimmy Lin, Jam Hsiao, Gillian Chung, Mark Chao and Ricky Hsiao.
