After Korean film director Kim Taeyong and Tang Wei were reported to be getting married this fall, several rumors behind their sudden decision to get married started spreading and were even reported as true in several media sources.
In one media source, Tang Wei was reported to have been 2 months pregnant with Kim Taeyong’s child, and thus the two were rushed in to announcing their marriage.
In another, Tang Wei was reported to have chosen to give up her Chinese citizenship by marrying Kim Taeyong, in which news of Tang Wei purchasing land in South Korea’s Bundang was also revealed. Thus, this created suspicions of Tang Wei looking into a permanent Korean citizenship.
On the 4th of July, Tang Wei’s agency spoke up and denied this rumors, in which they announced that Tang Wei and Kim Taeyong were getting married purely because they loved each other and not because Tang Wei was 2 months pregnant.
Also, concerning rumors of Tang Wei abandoning her Chinese citizenship, her agency stated that “Tang Wei was, is and will be a Chinese citizen”, and that she had no thoughts on giving up her citizenship. They also announced that her purchase of land in South Korea was true, however she did not buy land with the intention of trying to acquire a Korean citizenship.
