South Korea’s National Forensic Service is currently conducting a DNA test on a body, which is believed to belong to Sewol ferry owner, Yoo Byungeun.
Investigators revealed that the body was discovered on June 12th at a plum field, and is an approximate match to 73-year-old brother of the runaway owner. Yoo byungil, the older brother, was taken into custody for allegedly pocketing funds from affiliates of the ferry operating company.
The owner of the plum farm allegedly notified a police station of the body in early June, and although the body was delivered to a hospital, hair from the body was left on the field for over a month. Police were then unable to verify the identity due to heavy decay.
Some netizens have shown their displeasure at how the case is being handled due to police not securing the body immediately after being discovered in June.
Prosecutors, who issued another arrest warrant after the first expired on Monday, were allegedly only informed that the body discovered could be Yoo Byungeun afterwards.
Investigators also allegedly told the plum farm owner that the body seemed to be an ordinary homeless person.
