According to AFP,  Former US first lady Nancy Reagan is “slowly” recovering from a fall a few weeks ago which left her with fractured ribs, her spokeswoman said Wednesday.

 

The 90-year-old widow of president Ronald Reagan canceled her attendance at an event at the Reagan Library in California on Tuesday evening because doctors her advised her against it, said spokeswoman Joanne Drake.

 

“Weeks ago Mrs. Reagan took a fall at home and fractured a number of ribs,” she told AFP.

 

“She has been recovering slowly and has been adding a few appointments back on to her schedule, but was advised by her doctor not to try and attend large events too far from home just yet.

 

“She personally invited Congressman Paul Ryan to speak at the Reagan Library and really wanted to be there, but sent her apologies to him early yesterday,” she said in an email.

 

The fall occurred at Reagan’s home in Bel Air, just outside Los Angeles in March, CNN reported. The Reagan Library is in Simi Valley, an hour or so north of the city.

 

Nancy Reagan appears in public relatively rarely. Last year she laid a wreath for her husband at the Presidential Library on the 100th anniversary of his birthday in February.

According to Yahoo News / The Lookout,  Torika Watters 16, Newly crowned beauty queen in Fiji, who sparked an outcry because of her mixed heritage, was asked to give up her title because of her age, not her race, according to pageant officials.

Torika Watters, was chosen last month to represent Fiji in the Miss World contest. The pageant drew the likes of supermodel Rachel Hunter, who was a judge.

But after Watters won the title, she faced heavy backlash because of her mixed European/Fijian descent, and some said she did not look Fijian enough.

Hundreds of derogatory comments had to be deleted from the Miss World Fiji Facebook page, according to reports.

Watters had to step down because she did not meet the minimum age requirement of 17, Miss World Fiji pageant director Andhy Blake told the Fiji Times. Koini Vakaloloma, 24, the first runner-up, will take her place at the Miss World competition in Inner Mongolia in August.

Watters issued a statement saying that she had been approached by Blake to be in the contest and at the time expressed concerns about the age requirement. Blake told her she was still eligible. “I had no intentions of doing anything sneaky or wrong and like the other contestants entered the competition for what I believed to be the right reasons—to be an Ambassador for Fiji and raise money for charitable causes,” she wrote.

She went on to say: “I am proud of my identity as a Fijian and have never considered my people as racists.” She is not challenging the decision and has chosen to walk away.

Blake confirmed that he was under the impression Watters could compete, but was told later by organizers that contestants had to be at least one month away from turning 17 by the start of the pageant.

A posting on the Miss World Fiji 2012 Facebook site says, “Please be informed despite media reports—Miss Torika Watters was never stripped of her title. We wish her well in her future endeavors and offer an apology to her, her beautiful family and friends for any distress this competition would have brought upon her! She will always be the very 1st Miss World Fiji!!”

Watters is eligible next year for the pageant, according to Blake, if she chooses to compete again.

According to Take Six, Sean Penn and former flame Petra Nemcova  seem to have officially rekindled their romance after being spotted together on  a series of dates, sources tell Page Six.

They were spotted together at Thursday night’s star-packed birthday bash for  U2 front man Bono at The Spotted Pig in the West Village.

Their reunion happened weeks after Nemcova called off her wedding to Jamie Belman, whom the former Sports Illustrated swimsuit cover  model dated for eight months before getting engaged in January.

One month after delivering her second son, the singer brought him out for a mini show and tell with the Hong Kong media

 

Hong Kong singer Kelly Chen, brought her two sons along for her interview with famous Hong Kong radio and TV host Cha Xiao Xin yesterday. This is the first time Kelly is putting her newborn Riley Lau, in the spotlight although he slept through the interview.
The 39-year-old singer shared that her eldest son, Chace Lau is aware that he is now an elder brother. He affectionately refers himself as “elder brother Chace Lau” and never fails to greet Riley after he comes home from school every day, the actress shared.

18 days after giving birth to Riley, the singer was spotted attending a musical with her family despite it being her confinement period. Kelly expressed that she “wanted to be there for Chace” as it was his first musical and explained that it was her attempt to treat her sons equally..

Basking in the joy of having two sons, Kelly says she’s not planning for a baby girl anytime soon and prefers to “leave it all to fate”. The mother of two is also in no hurry to regain her figure and shared that she consumes “chicken, fish and soup” on a daily basis to recover from her pregnancy.

She has no plans to hold a birthday party for Riley’s first month and hopes to enjoy a simple meal and celebrate with her family instead. The proud mother shared that it was her attempt to show that she is fair in treating both of her sons.

Madonna May Be Charged For Speaking Out On Gay Rights In Russia

According to ABC News,  Pop singer Madonna has ignited controversy on both sides of a new anti-gay law in St Petersburg, Russia.

The Material Girl said in a  Facebook posting this week that she plans to speak out against the law during an Aug. 9 concert in the city.

“I will come to St. Petersburg to speak up for the gay community, to support the gay community and to give strength and inspiration to anyone who is or feels oppressed,” Madonna wrote on Wednesday.

“I don’t run away from adversity. I will speak during my show about this ridiculous atrocity,” she added.

The law, which took effect March 11, in part prohibits “the propaganda of homosexuality and pedophilia among minors.”

Gay rights activists say it would criminalize even reading, writing or speaking about gay, lesbian, or transgender people. Violations can carry hefty fines, ranging from about $170 for individuals up to $16,700 or organizations and businesses.

The bill’s author, city assemblyman Vitaly Milanov, says he wants Madonna charged under the new law if she speaks out against it during her concert. He said he was willing to attend the show “to control its moral content.”

“I’m ready to personally suffer a couple of hours of her concert,” he told the Russian Interfax news agency.

Madonna spoke out after an  op-ed by Masha Gessen, a Moscow-based Russian-American journalist, was published in the New York Times on Monday calling on Madonna to cancel the show and urging tourists and businesses to boycott the city.

For some gay rights advocates her pledge to use the venue to denounce the new law was not enough.

A group of Russian gay rights advocates plans to picket the concert, saying Madonna is cashing in on their struggle and urging her to cancel the show.

“The law will stay in force, Madonna will leave and the Russian LGBT-community will be humiliated even more,” Nikolai Aleksev, the head of the LGBT  advocacy group Gay Russia,  wrote on his blog.

Homosexuality was banned in the Soviet Union and was only decriminalized in 1993, though it was still declared a mental disorder until 1999. It remains highly taboo in Russia.

Laws similar to the St Petersburg legislation are now being considered in other regions and the speaker of the Russian Parliament, the Duma, has promised to weigh endorsing it at a national level.

Mike Hossack, a longtime member of rock band The Doobie Brothers, has died of cancer at the age of 65, the band’s manager said on Tuesday.

Hossack, who helped give the band its distinctive sound with two drummers in the early 1970s, died peacefully on Monday at his home in Dubois, Wyoming, manager Bruce Cohn said.

“Mike was a one-of-a kind guy and a longtime member of the Doobie Brothers,” Cohn said in a statement. “He was a fighter and fought the big battle with cancer and I speak for Mike’s family and the entire band when I say he will be greatly missed.”

New Jersey-born Hossack began playing drums at the age of 12. After serving in the Navy in Vietnam in the late 1960s he was planning a career in law enforcement before getting his first gig with a California band called Mourning Reign.

That led to an invitation to join the northern California band The Doobie Brothers in 1971, where he became the second drummer and was heard on early hit songs like “Blackwater”, “Listen to the Music” and “China Grove.”

Hossack left the Doobie Brothers in 1973 and formed Bonaroo, worked with other bands, and became a partner in a Hollywood recording studio.

He rejoined the Doobie Brothers in 1987 for a series of benefit concerts for Vietnam war veterans, and remained with them when the band reformed to make albums like “Cycles”, “Brotherhood” and 2010’s “World Gone Crazy.”

Founding member and guitarist Tom Johnston said Hossack was “an incredible musician, a studio quality drummer.”

“The last few years, he was brave and determined to keep on playing in the face of ill health, and I will always admire him for that,” Johnston said on Tuesday.

Doobie Brothers’ singer and songwriter Pat Simmons said he and Hossack were friends for 43 years.

“We shared some wonderful adventures together, times I will never forget. Thanks for all those wonderful memories Mike, and all the great music. We love you,” Simmons said.

 

According to Wikipedia, he is survived by his son Mike Jr., his daughter Erica Rose and his brother Eric.

Cee Lo Green is the latest star doing the Las Vegas circuit. The “Forget You” singer will kick off a series of dates at Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino starting Aug. 29.

The Vegas run, dubbed Cee Lo Green Presents Loberace, will feature “mind-twisting magic and sexified showgirls,” according to producers. The show, which currently stretches into December 2012, is being described as “part dance party, part live intimate concert.”

“Planet Hollywood was established by fellow artists, actors, entertainers, my peers, and they’ve proven to know a thing or two about the art of being an entrepreneur,” Green said in a statement.

A ticket on-sale date hasn’t been announced yet.

“The Voice” judge follows in the footsteps Celine Dion, Elton John and Carlos Santana, all of whom have set up shop in Las Vegas for a series of concerts. According to, Celebrity Circuit.

According to Us Weekly, Whitney Houston‘s 18-year-old daughter has agreed to sit down with Oprah Winfrey for a March 11 chat as part of the talk show titan’s Oprah’s Next Chapter, the OWN network confirmed Friday.

Also including interviews with the late singer’s sister-in-law/manager Patricia Houston and brother, Gary Houston, the one-hour special will allow Bobbi Kristina to “[share] personal memories of her mom and how she would like the iconic superstar to be remembered.”

Sources tell Us Weekly, Whitney’s teen daughter with ex Bobby Brown has taken the loss especially hard.

“Her mama died, so she broke down. Nobody expected her to pass as quickly as she did. [Bobbi Kristina] had a nervous breakdown,” Houston family member Ray Watson told Us of the teen, who was hospitalized for stress and anxiety one day after her mother was found dead February 11 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.

Bobby Brown has been battling with Whitney Houston‘s family over seeing his daughter ever since Whitney passed away last week … but Bobby won’t turn this into a legal battle … TMZ has learned.
Sources close to the New Edition singer tell TMZ … Bobby really wants to be there for Bobbi Kristina, but does not want to make the situation more stressful for her than it already is.
We’re told Bobby was very upset with how he was treated at Whitney’s funeral yesterday and feels her family should be as considerate to him as his family was to Whitney when Bobby’s mother passed away last year.
According to our sources, Bobby won’t bring lawyers into the situation and, as on source said, he feels “this sort of thing you let the higher power handle.”

Robin Thicke Arrested for Marijuana Possession

Robin Thicke is singing the blues. The R&B singer was arrested for possession of marijuana in New York City, the Daily News reports.
Thicke, 34, was arrested just after noon on Friday by officers who saw him smoking a joint in a black Cadillac Escalade.  The singer was in the car with another person, but only Thicke was arrested.

“He wasn’t driving,” a police source tells the newspaper. “He was sitting in the car. He was arrested and a small amount of marijuana was recovered on him.”
According to CBS News, Thicke was given a desk appearance ticket and released.
His rep had no comment.

Thicke is married to Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol star Paula Patton. The couple have a 22-month-old son, Julian Fuego.
